ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST PARISH
271 WINCHESTER ST, WARRENTON, VA 20186
God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27)
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife and the two of them become one body. (Genesis 2:24)
"The intimate community of life and love which constitutes the married state has been established by the Creator and endowed by him with its own proper laws. . . . God himself is the author of marriage." The vocation to marriage is written in the very nature of man and woman as they came from the hand of the Creator. (CCC 1603)
In virtue of the sacrament of marriage, married Christians signify and share in the mystery of the unity and fruitful love that exists between Christ and his Church; they thus help each other to attain holiness in their married life and in welcoming and rearing children; and they have their own special place and gift among the people of God. (Introduction to the Rite of Marriage, 1969)
As with all the sacraments, marriage demands adequate preparation if the sacrament is to have its full meaning and effect. The planning of the liturgical celebration with the intimate involvement of priest, musician(s), and the couple is an essential part of that preparation because “[the sacraments] not only presuppose faith, but by words and actions they also nourish, strengthen, and express it."
Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, #59
Congratulations on your engagement! We are happy you have chosen to celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage here at St. John’s and we welcome you. The wedding liturgy requires as much planning and entails as many choices as the wedding reception. We want to help you make informed decisions about these choices. The following guidelines will help you make your preparations.
DO NOT BOOK A RECEPTION VENUE BEFORE SPEAKING WITH A PRIEST AND CONFIRMING A DATE WITH OUR PARISH OFFICE.
WEDDINGS WILL ONLY BE BOOKED AFTER WEDDING QUESTIONNAIRE AND DEPOSIT CHECK HAVE BEEN RECEIVED.
UU The wedding time should be arranged with our Parish Office and our Priest officiating the marriage. After the wedding is scheduled, than you should make reception arrangements.
UU Weddings are held on Saturdays, normally at 10am and 2pm.
UU Rehearsals are held Fridays at 5pm and 6pm - we have Eucharistic Adoration scheduled in the church at this time which our parishioners look forward to. We do not wish to disrupt our Adoration for longer than necessary, so again, please be aware of the time.
To begin your marriage preparation, please carefully read our Wedding Guidelines.
Please complete the wedding contact found at the end of the Guidelines and turn in your deposit to the Parish Office Manager prior to booking a date for your wedding at St. John's. Please begin this process though the Parish Office, 540-347-2922 x202, as soon as you are engaged and no later than six months prior to your desired wedding date. Please keep in mind, however, that St. John's cannot confirm your desired wedding date until you have met with the priest and he has confirmed that you are free to marry.
